In the last week, I’ve had four conversations either with people who also live here, or with people who have asked if they should live here, about why I’ve chosen Colorado Springs as home.
So, a list is in order (no pun intended). Following are the reasons, in no particular order (okay, totally intended that time), why I’ve chosen to live in Colorado Springs, CO…and more importantly why I plan to stay:
- The seasons. We have a couple of cold months in the winter – and I’m sorry you people from the south, I like my winters to be cold and snowy – a couple of hot months in the summer, and the rest of the year is 50′s/60′s, which in Colorado is shorts & t-shirt weather.
- The weather. 300 days of sunshine. Enough said.
- The mountains. Apologies to you ocean people. The ocean’s wonderful. I LOVE the ocean. I couldn’t live without it. But nothing takes my breath away like standing at 14,000+ feet and staring out at the Sangre de Cristo range as it rolls on forever.
- The sky. It’s not bluer anywhere in the continental US.
- The climate. Yeah, I know, I know. VERY similar to “The Weather”; but it’s not exactly the same. There is next to no humidity here. Yes, there is a bit of a trade out in terms of how green it is (or isn’t, as it were), but it’s worth every minute I spend not covered in sweat on a warm summer day.
- The lifestyle. Running. Hiking. Snowboarding. Mountain Biking. Cycling. Rock Climbing. Camping. Nearly every outdoor activity that I love is not only easily accessible, it’s practically calling to me from just outside my door. Snowboarding is a quick jaunt into the mountains, not a twelve hour road trip and a week sharing a hotel room with ten college buddies.
- The people. Not only do some of my oldest friends live here, but since moving here, I’ve made some of the best friends a person could have. For the first time in a very long time, I feel like I’m surrounded by really great people who would do anything for me; and for whom I would gladly return the favor.
Anyone else feel the same way? Have something to add? Or maybe you have a list about where you live. Comment away, People.
